PAST PHILIPPINE CIVIL ENGINEERING BOARD EXAM PROBLEMS

PAST PHILIPPINE CIVIL ENGINEERING BOARD EXAM PROBLEMS

SAMPLE PROBLEMS
(PAST CE BOARD EXAMINATIONS)

The CE licensure problems, which involve the most important concepts, will serve not only as an instant refresher of principles in Civil Engineering but also as a convenient reference for Engineers, reviewees and students. It is hoped that this topic will serve to familiarize recent graduates as well as students of Civil Engineering with the nature, thrust and scope of actual problems given in past Licensure Examinations for the practice of Civil Engineering.

CIVIL ENGINEERING REFERENCE BOOKS (PHILIPPINES)

By: Dindo Mojica, C.E., M.Eng

Reference books are essential aids and materials that are used by the reviewees in order for them to pass the Civil Engineering Board Examinations given by the Professional Regulations Commission.

Reference books are usually available at any leading bookstores or at your preferred Civil Engineering review centers where review books can be purchased separately or in some review centers, review books are included in their CE review and refresher packages.

The author is just giving a partial list of CE reference books as sourced (available) from bookstores, online-selling sites, review centers and libraries.

THE ENGINEER'S TECHNICAL BOOKS
(MUST-HAVE)

Certain standard technical books of reference for Civil Engineers are necessary for general and everyday use (applicable mostly on office and field works). Without such references an engineer is not able to meet conditions which are continually coming up in his practice. Every civil engineer should have a good technical library.

The engineer's technical schoolbooks, lectures, and notes will form the best kind of a foundation for a working library. Among the best books to reinforce such a foundation are the following:

National Structural Code of the Philippines and Fire Code of the Philippines

National Structural Code of the Philippines 1992

National Structural Code of the Philippines 2001

National Structural Code of the Philippines 2010 (latest)

National Building Code of the Philippines

Structural Design Code Data Handbook by Engr. Engracio P. de Gracia

ASEP Steel Handbook

Department of Public Works and Highways Blue Book Volume 2
(Highways, Bridges & Airport)

Department of Public Works and Highways Blue Book
Blue Book Volume 1 (Requirements & Conditions of Contract)

Department of Public Works and Highways Blue Book
Blue Book Volume 3 (Standard Specifications for Public Works Structures)

Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Set of Manuals

Estimated Bill of Materials by Architect Vicente Tagayun

Building Design and Construction by Architect Vicente Tagayun

Latest Edition of the National Building Code

The VNR Dictionary of Civil Engineering by John S. Scott

Simplified Construction Estimate by Architect Max B. Fajardo Jr.

Project Road Study by Romeo A. Sanares

Simplified Methods on Building Construction by Architect Max B. Fajardo Jr.

Surveying Books by Engr. Juny La Putt

Planning and Designers Handbook and
Elements of Roads and Highways by Architect Max B. Fajardo Jr.

Elements of Roads and Highways by Architect Max B. Fajardo Jr.

Planning and Designers Handbook by Architect Max B. Fajardo Jr.

Specifications and Contract by Architect Max B. Fajardo Jr.

Bridge Inspector's Handbook

NATIONAL WATER RESOURCES BOARD MANUALS

These books cover the general field (and some specialized topics) of civil engineering in a very thorough manner. They should be found in every engineer's possession and should occupy a space on his working table. No matter how many other books he may be fortunate enough to possess, he will find the above the most useful.

COLLEGE REFERENCES

During your college days, you should have acquired the needed textbooks required by your professors. Your professors and instructors  know the best textbooks in their field of study because they are the ones who make the CE subject syllabus. Never depend too much on CE Reviewer Books. Instead, understand your CE textbooks well. But you can't pass the CE Board Exam by merely reading books. Put them into practice, by solving many problems, to understand even more.

Reading reviewer books alone for purposes of review is fine, but thinking that you will pass the examination afterwards just with those materials is silly enough. You will never hurdle the CE Board Exam this way. The moment you read the CE Board questions, you might be shocked because they might be different from the reviewer books, but if you can remember the concepts of your textbooks, then you might be able to answer questions appropriately.
